Describe yourself in three words: Patient, thoughtful and creative
How did you first get involved with ACCESS? I was first introduced to ACCESS while working in the Admissions Office at Virginia Wesleyan College. During my career at VWC, I had many roles which included recruiting students from the local Hampton Roads area for several years. During that time I had the opportunity to learn about the organization and to get to know many of the ACCESS staff. I long admired the work of the ACCESS College Foundation and was thrilled when an opportunity presented itself for me to join the team as an advisor for two high schools in Virginia Beach.
What is your most memorable/rewarding moment working with ACCESS? After meeting with a student regarding her financial aid award from a college, she thanked me for my help throughout the year and taking time to explain things to her. She was kind and appreciative. It reinforced how important the work is that we do, and the impact we have on students as they navigate through the college process.
What is the most important piece of advice you would give to a college-bound student? Don’t limit yourself in your college options. Select several colleges to consider/apply to so you have a choice in where you will attend at the end of your senior year. Research the college websites and visit the campuses to be aware of application deadlines and institutional scholarship opportunities. Apply for many scholarships!
