The Port of Virginia's 8 Week Summer Internship Program runs from June 1st - July 24th and is designed to develop, teach and mentor undergraduate and graduate students as they explore career opportunities within the maritime industry. Students will be given the opportunity to apply classroom knowledge to hands on project focused tasks in various departments throughout The Port of Virginia. Intern: Process Excellence The Port of Virginia’s Process Excellence Intern will support the shaping and development of a problem solving and continuous improvement culture. This will be done by focusing on creating training content to include course materials and supplemental resources to support vessel productivity and Process Excellence’s Catalyst Academy (Continuous Improvement Training). In addition, theIintern will conduct research through reviewing relevant trade publications, company literature, on-line data bases, and any other published materials, reviewing source materials, and developing training content. Potential Learning Outcomes • Ability to transfer knowledge to meet the needs of a specific audience. • Gain an understanding of continuous improvement concepts, tools and terminology. • Improve writing and deliverable development skills. Eligibility Requirements • Must be available to work full time (40 hours per week) during June 1st - July 24th. • Must be currently enrolled in an accredited four year college program (having completed freshman year). • Preferred 3.0 GPA or higher (must be able to provide proof of current enrollment and GPA if selected). • Selected applicant must be able to pass a pre-employment background check which may include any of the following: Academic record and verification of education and/or certifications; Employment history (including references); Criminal history; Driving record; Fingerprinting; drug and alcohol testing, Fit for duty Physical, Other records or information related to the candidate's suitability for the position.
