Seluani Navarrete-Perez

First Colonial High School

“My name is Seluani Navarrete-Perez, and I am a senior double majoring in criminal justice and Hispanic studies/Spanish at Virginia Wesleyan University. While attending First Colonial High School, Mrs. Hoggard was my advisor, and to have her now as my college advisor is a blessing. She has helped me so much with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), scholarships, checking in on me, and cheering me on through my growth. I love to volunteer for Access because it is incredible seeing the impact the organization has. I would not be where I am today without the support of Access and the College Career and Success team.”

High School Advisor, Charlene Hoggard

Jada Gail

Landstown High School

“My name is Jada Gail, and I am a graduate of ECPI University’s Culinary Institute of Virginia, where I completed my associate’s degree in just 15 months. When I attended Landstown High School, my Access Advisor, Ms. Hechtkopf, guided me through the college preparation process, helping me with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) completion, applications, and scholarship searches. Access also awarded me the ‘Beating the Odds Scholarship,’ an honor that provided me with both encouragement and tangible support.”

Washington High School, my Access Advisor, Ms. White, helped me become a great a student, a great individual, and helped me know what I want to do in life and college.  Ms. White told me that I should never be scared; she encouraged me to step outside my comfort zone and always try new things no matter what.”

Breshauna Munden

Maury High School

“My name is Breshauna Munden, and I am attending Christopher Newport University while majoring in Chemistry and triple minoring in Psychology, Forensic Science, and Leadership.  When I attended Maury High School, my Access Advisor, Mr. Blount, was my biggest supporter.  I would come to his office and ask questions about FAFSA because it was confusing, and I had to file as Independent.  He made sure I turned in all my scholarship essays and applications.  His constant reminders helped me a lot and motivated me to get my scholarship applications submitted so I could attend college.”

High School Advisor, Darius Blount

Courtney Smaw

Northampton High School

“My name is Courtney Smaw and I’m currently a freshman studying biology at Norfolk State University. While I attended Northampton High School, my Access Advisor, Miss Allen, pushed me to get that scholarship information in. That was the number one factor in my success!”

As I prepare for the next step in my life, I want to give thanks to her because I wouldn’t be where I am with the college process without her. Thank you!!!!”

Mia Colontuono

Mia ColontuonoNanesemond High School

“I am Mia Colontuono. I am a senior at Nansemond River High School. I have had wonderful guidance from my Access advisor Mrs. Howton. She has been one of the most patient people I have ever met with helping me apply to college. She took me through it step by step and pushed me to apply to different colleges. I never saw college in my future until Mrs. Howton came to my English class and told us all about Access and all the benefits that come with it such as scholarships and how it is a free service. I have applied to many colleges and I am so excited to see what is next. Honestly, I could not have done this without the help of Mrs. Howton.”

Keara Covita

Keara CovitaKempsville High School

“Hi, my name is Keara Covita, I go to Kempsville high school in Virginia Beach, and I’ve been using Access College Foundation throughout my high school years. Access has definitely helped me with the college application process and opening me up to frequent scholarship opportunities. I use Access as a resource when I need help with college stuff. Without Access, I would’ve been so lost my junior and senior year. If you had asked me what the SAT or ACT was, I would have not known what those were. Access College Foundation has given me knowledge that I will use throughout my college days. I definitely wouldn’t be where I am without Access College Foundation.” @iam.keara
