Access College Foundation To Award $1.1 Million in Scholarships

Annual Scholarship Awards Luncheon Will Honor Graduating High School Seniors

 Norfolk, Va. (June 17, 2024)Access College Foundation will host its 2024 Scholarship Awards Luncheon, an annual celebration of the achievements of Access Scholars on Tuesday, June 18. This year, Access will award more than $1.1 million in Scholarships to the Class of 2024 – more than $500,000 “Last-Dollar” Scholarships to 21 students during the event on June 18 plus additional scholarships totaling nearly $600,000 will be awarded to 110 additional Class of 2024 Scholars during its Summer Transition Program.

During the luncheon, scholarships ranging from $12,000 to more than $100,000 will be awarded.  New this year, scholarships honoring Access’ founders—the Jane P. and Frank Batten Scholarship, and the Elizabeth D. and Joshua P. Darden, Jr. Scholarship—will award two $30,000 scholarships and four $13,000 scholarships to Access students. The top scholarship award this year—The Robert H. Wells and Janice G. Wells Myers-Lawson School of Construction Scholarship—is a life-changing, full-ride scholarship available to Access students which provides tuition, fees, books, room and board for four years at Virginia Tech. This year, it will be awarded to Keri Halko, an Ocean Lakes High School graduate who will be declaring the construction engineering management major at Virginia Tech.

“We are thrilled to celebrate the accomplishments of our 36th graduating class,” said Bonnie B. Sutton, President and CEO of Access College Foundation. “These scholarships mark the culmination of the hard work and dedication these students have put forth throughout their high school years. We are confident they will achieve great things, and we are proud to be a part of their journey.”

The ceremony will feature keynote remarks from TaMyra Freeman, an Access Scholar and graduate from Virginia Commonwealth University Class of 2024 and a College Advisor for Advising Corps UNC Chapel Hill.

The 2024 Scholarship Awards Luncheon will be supported by the following event partners: Chowan University, Christopher Newport University, Dominion Energy, ECPI University, Elizabeth City State University, Longwood University, Norfolk State University, Old Dominion University, PRA Group, Regent University, Sentara, Audrey Settle, Tidewater Community College, Truist, University of Mary Washington, Virginia529®, Virginia State University, Virginia Tech, Virginia Wesleyan University, George Mason University and William & Mary.
